Cowboy Up
Yes, the Eagles prospects are grim after Sunday night’s comprehensive defeat to the hated Cowboys. The papers are filled with the sages’ opinions that the season is, how do you say…..”over.”
But they’ve been here before. Specifically, last year. I don’t want to ignore the hard realities on display Sunday night that exposed a team with serious shortcomings in every facet of the game, but the season is not yet lost. At least not yet.
Until they actually lose that 7th game, anything is possible. They were 5-6 last year without their starting quarterback and having just been humiliated (as humiliated as Sunday night) in Indianapolis. They were facing 3 straight NFC East road games in which NO ONE gave them a shot at running the table. In short, things were just as bleak. And really were the Jacksonville or Tennessee losses last year – at home – any worse a setback than Sunday night?
Obviously, things are different this year. The Cowboys, Giants, and Washington are all better, while the Eagles appear to be worse than last year. Sure, the division has been lost. But a wildcard remains an option. Last year, the NFC East sent three teams to the playoffs. This year it may be repeated (though that 3rd team may be the Redskins and not the Eagles). Certainly, it doesn't look good, but remember – it isn’t over till that 7th loss. And And it all begins with a win against the Redskins next week. It’s a very winnable game. Or at least it is for a team that still has playoff possibilities. We’ll see if that team is the Eagles by next Sunday night.
If not, then, we’ll have to endure a rest-of-season debate about playing Kolb.
