More Lidge and Phillies' Relievers

Acquiring the soon to be 31 year-old Lidge (DOB 12/23/76) has got my
friend Pk in a reflective frame of mind.

To wit, "A lot of this depends on Lidge's health and durability. If he's
healthy and can still throw strong, I think it's a great move. I'm
always worried, however, about acquiring "closers" after their peak
years, which happens to be a forte of the Phillies management. (Think
Bobby Thigpen, Jose Mesa, Turk Wendell, Flash Gordon, Todd Jones and so
on and so on.)
