A Used Ford

Bob Ford has lost his mind. What else can be said of his ridiculous and ridiculously premature call to “play Kevin Kolb.” Now.

Says Ford, “The Eagles are not very good, and aren't going to be a true contender for a long while - long enough, regrettably, that it is time to make the most painful of decisions. It is time to put Kolb out there and begin to see what they have.”

What the?! This team was supposed to be a playoff contender. They are still one 97 yard drive and two muffed punts away from 5-3. I refuse to believe that this team is as bad as it may have seemed Sunday night. How can anyone (particularly the Philly sports media) go from thinking super bowl to thinking that the team needs to be rebuilt in the span of 8 weeks? Somebody is very wrong about something. Perhaps the truth lies in the middle. The offseason upgrades weren't enough (especially Curtis at WR) but the core is still there to contend. To put Kolb in the lineup, especially now, is to signal a total rebuilding of the team. How do you go from divisional playoff game to comprehensive rebuilding effort in half a season with no major injuries?  And playing Kolb now might make some – Ford – feel better but it still isn’t going to make up for the lack of talent at WR.

Besides, things could look very different in two weeks. If the Eagles can beat the Redskins and take care of the lousy Dolphins, they’ll  be 5-5. The Skins have us and at the Cowboys. They could/should be 5-5. The Giants have Dallas and at Detroit. They could be 6-4 headed to Minnesota (though I think we want the Giants to win that Lions game). My gosh, for as terrible, terrible as the Saints started the season, they are only one game better than us right now. Is anyone calling for Drew Brees’ head in the Big Easy?
