hard to believe

From yesterday’s Inqy.

Numbers hard to believe

Since the start of the 2004 season, there are only seven players with more National League RBI than Burrell: Albert Pujols,

Andruw Jones, Miguel Cabrera, Carlos Lee (now in Texas), Adam Dunn, Bobby Abreu (now with the Yankees), and Aramis Ramirez. That's it.

The concern about hitting behind Ryan Howard is real and legitimate, and Burrell has been awful this season. (For context, though, with runners in scoring position, Burrell was hitting .239 going into last night, and Howard was hitting .240. Burrell has struck out 18 times to end innings with runners in scoring position, and Howard has struck out 20 times.) The only point to be made here is that these are uncharacteristically bad numbers. There is reason to expect better. In 2004-05, Burrell hit .292 with RISP.

That’s amazing.
